Preparations For The Final Phase Of Implementation Of Constituency Councils In Barbados

Preparations for the final phase of the implementation of the Constituency Councils are in progress. In accordance with the First Schedule of the Constituency Councils Act 2009, the Constituency Councils will be established in zones.

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment, Urban and Rural Development invites organisations and individuals to nominate representatives to be considered to serve on the Constituency Councils indicated below, which are in the Northern, Western and Central Zones:

Council Members Selected for the Six Constituency Councils

The nomination process for the selection of members to represent on the First Phase of the Constituency Councils was completed.  As a result the Department of Constituency Empowerment launched the First Phase of the Constituency Councils in June 2009 with the following persons been members of the six constituency councils selected in the First Phase:

“A Constituency Council is a legally established body of local representatives, who have been appointed and given the authority to voice the concerns of the residents of the Constituency; to maintain links with Central Government and other agencies; and to effectively and efficiently manage resources for the development of the given Constituency”.
