First Phase of the Constituency Councils to be launched
The Department of Constituency Empowerment will launch six councils of the thirty councils on the 5th July 2009 at the Sir Llyod Erskine Saniford Conferenc Centre, at 4:00 pm. The six councils are:
- St. Michael North
- St. Michael North West
- St. Philip South
- St. George South
- Christ Church South
- St. James North
In attendence will be the Prime Minister, The Honourable David Thompson to address the ceremony, along with the Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment, Rural and Urban Development, The Honourable Chistopher Sinckler. Council memebers will be sworn in and receive instruments of appointments.

DEFINITION
“A Constituency Council is a legally established body of local representatives, who have been appointed and given the authority to voice the concerns of the residents of the Constituency; to maintain links with Central Government and other agencies; and to effectively and efficiently manage resources for the development of the given Constituency”.
